United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is the UN agency responsible for protecting refugees and providing humanitarian assistance to those fleeing conflict and persecution. The UNHCR was established in 1950 to help refugees and other displaced persons and works to uphold the 1951 Refugee Convention and its 1967 Protocol. It provides emergency aid, shelter, and protection to refugees and other vulnerable people and works to ensure their safety and freedom of movement. The UNHCR also works to promote their rights and to help them find durable solutions such as voluntary repatriation, local integration, or resettlement in another country.

Hello Delegates!! My name is Isabela Lyra, and I am a freshman at the Pan American School of Bahia. I'm glad to be the head chair of the UNHCR Council for the 2023 edition of SALMUN. I will try my best to make this conference the most delightful as possible. Outside the world of MUN, I enjoy spending time with my friends and going out. A fun fact about me is that this is my first time being chair of a committee. I started my MUN journey in 6th grade, however back then I was a secretary, which made me have a new academic interest. Hi Delegates!! My name is Luiza Farsoni, and I'm a freshman at the Pan American School of Bahia. It's a pleasure to announce that for the first time, I will be a vice-chair in SALMUN, making part of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Committee. I will try my best to make this experience the most unforgettable and entertaining as possible. Besides MUN, I really enjoy playing sports like volleyball and spending time with my friends and family. I already had MUN experiences, but I hope to improve my skills related to it. I'm super glad to be part of this committee and I'm extremely excited to meet all the delegates. I look forward to making this experience as delightful as possible.
